Projektbeschreibung

The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is seeking a Computational Biologist with experience in Proteomics data analysis to join its Computational Biology Facility.

The Computational Biology Facility supports and collaborates with FMI scientists in the analysis and interpretation of large, state-of-the-art datasets to address fundamental questions in biomedical research. It also provides external and in-house developed analysis tools (fmicompbio.github.io) and offers training in programming, bioinformatics, and reproducible research. The facility is a member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformaticsand actively contributes to community projects such as Bioconductor and Galaxy.

In this role, you will

  • Collaborate with FMI scientists to interpret, communicate, and publish results.
  • Work closely with the Mass Spectrometry Facility on advanced data analysis.
  • Analyze proteomics and other high-throughput omics datasets and develop new analytical approaches when needed.
  • Advise scientists on experimental design and data analysis strategies.
  • Teach and mentor scientists in computational biology and proteomics.

About you

  • You hold a PhD degree or can demonstrate equivalent experience in computational biology, physics, mathematics, biology or related fields, with formal training in statistics and multivariate data analysis.
  • You have strong programming skills, including knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and signal processing.
  • You have extensive experience analyzing and interpreting mass spectrometry data using state-of-the-art tools, and you are interested in integrating it with other data modalities, such as RNA-seq or ATAC-seq data.
  • You enjoy collaborative projects, communicate results effectively, and work well with experimental biologists.
  • You can work independently and are open to acquiring new skills relevant to your role.

What we offer

  • A competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • A 3-year initial contract with the plan of transition to a permanent position.
  • Opportunities to participate in scientific meetings and attend workshops and training programs to learn new techniques.
  • A dynamic, multidisciplinary, and international environment that values diversity, inclusion, and the contributions of every individual.
  • A friendly, supportive, and competent team.

How to apply

Please submit your application online at Opening by October 25, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Your application should include:
