Projektbeschreibung
The Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) in Magdeburg is a non-university research institution dedicated to investigating the neurobiological mechanisms of learning and memory. With a broad spectrum of molecular biology, animal, and human experimental research and the corresponding research infrastructure, the LIN is one of the cornerstones of neuroscience research in Magdeburg and within the Leibniz Association. With 250 employees, we collaborate nationally and internationally with universities, research institutions, and companies.
For the “Closed-loop AI-enabled Rehabilitative Engineering (CLAIRE)” project, funded by the State of Saxony-Anhalt to promote science and research with funds from the European Union, we are seeking three dedicated researchers to join us as soon as possible as
Postdoctoral Fellow (m/f/d)
The positions are full-time (TV-L E13) for an initial term of three years, with a maximum fixed term ending on August 31, 2029. The start date can be as early as September 1, 2026; the specific start date is flexible and will be determined in consultation with you.
About the Project:
The CLAIRE project is developing novel adaptive neuroimplants at the intersection of biotechnology, digital technologies, and resource efficiency. The focus is on closed-loop technologies as a new concept in “rehabilitative engineering,” in which the adaptability of the biological organism is linked to that of the intelligent technical implant to enable personalized digital health solutions. The goal is to support future therapies for conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, hearing impairments, depression, and chronic pain. The work program is divided into the areas of hardware (neuromorphic, energy-efficient chips), software (AI-based signal analysis), and wetware (implementation of closed-loop rehabilitation in the brain).
Personal Requirements:
For the postdoctoral positions in the CLAIRE project, a Ph.D. in a relevant field—e.g., (computational) neuroscience, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering/microelectronics, (bio)informatics/AI, or biotechnology—is required. Ideally, you will have in-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas: neuromorphic hardware and chip development, AI-based analysis of neural signals, or neurophysiological experiments on learning, memory, and rehabilitation. In addition, you have solid experience in scientific data analysis as well as in the preparation and publication of scientific papers.
