Doctoral Researcher
(E13 TV-L, 65%, gross salary range: € 38,560-43,483 p.a.)
for the duration of 4 years, to begin on 1st of February 2027.
About the Role
The successful applicant will work on the Horizon Europe 2025 project "Reimagining Work and Care: Gender Equality, Couple Dynamics, and Policy Innovation in Europe (REWORC)," funded by the European Commission. The doctoral candidate will contribute to comparative analyses of how childcare availability and quality affect long-term child outcomes, and will explore how flexible working and childcare arrangements impact family well-being across socio-economic groups. The project combines cross-nationally comparative longitudinal data analysis, survey experiments, and qualitative interviews, and involves collaboration with project partners across six European countries, as well as engagement with policy institutions and stakeholders. The Chair of Microsociology and the wider project group offer a friendly, constructive, and international research environment.
Requirements
Candidates should have an excellent academic record and hold a Master's degree in sociology, social policy, or a related social science discipline, with research interests in family sociology or a related field. Particularly relevant research areas include:
- work–family balance and family policy
- gender and social inequality across the life course
- early childhood education and care and child outcomes
Candidates should have solid knowledge of and experience with regression analysis, along with some knowledge of advanced quantitative methods, particularly longitudinal data analysis. Experience with large-scale panel datasets, cross-nationally comparative analysis and qualitative methods is desirable. Excellent English is required, and German language skills (at least B2) are desirable. We are looking for candidates with strong writing and presentation skills, a demonstrated capacity for independent work, personal initiative, and a cooperative, team-oriented working style.
