About the Role:
The School of Accounting, Economics and Finance is seeking to appoint a continuing Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in property to contribute to high-quality teaching, curriculum development, research and engagement within the Property discipline. The successful candidate will help students develop the knowledge, professional capability and practical skills required for careers in property, valuation, development, investment, and related fields.
Accredited by both the Australian Property Institute and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Curtin brings property education excellence and industry experience into the classroom. Strong links with the local property industry connect students with industry and enrich their learning experience.
Appointment will be made at Lecturer (ALB) or Senior Lecturer (ALC) level, with responsibilities aligned to the successful applicant’s experience and career stage. Applicants should indicate the level they wish to be considered for.
Lecturer applicants should demonstrate capability across teaching, curriculum, research and service, while Senior Lecturer applicants should demonstrate a more established academic profile, including leadership in teaching and/or research, research income, HDR supervision and mentoring.
The successful applicant will deliver innovative Property courses, contribute to curriculum development and support an industry- and research-informed learning environment. Their research will complement existing policy-engaged work aligned with housing supply, affordability, sustainability and equity, with opportunities for research funding, multi-disciplinary projects, HDR supervision, leadership and professional development relative to career stage.
Core responsibilities across both levels:
- Deliver high-quality and innovative teaching to undergraduate students demonstrating ongoing reflective improvement in teaching practice.
- Design and deliver engaging learning materials and assessment activities that enhance student outcomes and foster student learning.
- Contribute to curriculum design and undertake administrative responsibilities associated with teaching and coordination and contribute to an exceptional student experience.
- Keep abreast of current property, real estate and related discipline theory, professional practice and contemporary approaches to teaching and learning.
- Undertake nationally competitive high-quality research in Property and sustain a coherent program of research.
- Publish in high-quality refereed journals/outlets in manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
- Co-supervise higher degree by research students.
- Disseminate research through conferences, seminars, and other scholarly activities including translation of research to students, industry and other external stakeholders.
- Contribute to research projects and initiatives including competitive research funding as co and/or chief investigator (according to level).
- Contribute to academic service, collegiality, and effective internal operations.
- Contribute to external activities relevant to the Property discipline including engaging with industry, the profession, and broader community.
Lecturer (ALB) responsibilities:
- Contribute to the preparation and delivery of courses and units in collaboration with academic colleagues.
- Contribute to curriculum innovation, content design and the development of learning materials.
- Coordinate units and undertake associated administrative responsibilities.
- Support student learning through supervision of honours students, postgraduate coursework students and/or higher degree by research students, as appropriate.
- Build a research profile through nationally competitive research, scholarly outputs and contribution to funding applications.
- Contribute to academic service, collegiality and engagement within the School, Faculty, University and relevant professional communities.
Senior Lecturer (ALC) responsibilities:
- Lead or make a significant contribution to high-quality teaching across undergraduate, and honours levels.
- Lead curriculum development, course coordination and scholarly teaching initiatives within the discipline.
- Demonstrate an established research profile through high-quality research outputs, competitive funding activity and contribution to discipline standing.
- Lead research projects or teams where appropriate and actively seek research income as co-investigator or chief investigator.
- Undertake principal supervision of honours, research masters and doctoral students.
- Provide academic leadership, mentor less experienced staff and contribute to major School or Faculty initiatives.
- Foster a collegial and supportive working environment and model a high standard of professional behaviour.
Lecturer (ALB) selection criteria:
- A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated high level teaching skills, including a reflective approach to teaching delivery and student learning.
- A strong understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to property, real estate or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated capacity to contribute to curriculum development, learning material design and unit coordination.
- A record of research outputs, scholarly activity and/or professional contribution relevant to property, real estate or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability or capacity to supervise honours, postgraduate coursework and/or higher degree by research students.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the role.
Senior Lecturer (ALC) selection criteria:
- A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Proven high level teaching skills, including a demonstrated reflective approach to teaching and student learning.
- A significant contribution to scholarship in teaching, with experience in curriculum development and unit or course coordination.
- An established record of research outputs or creative works in high quality refereed academic journals or outlets consistent with the discipline.
- A clear five-year research strategy designed to deliver research impact and translation. Evidence of a strong national reputation and a growing international profile, including a record of obtaining research income, competitive grants and/or fellowships.
- Demonstrated ability to disseminate research findings through the media and other sources and to engage industry in the translation of research to impact.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to lead curriculum and/or research initiatives, mentor less experienced staff and supervise higher degree by research students.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster a collegial and supportive working environment and interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the role.
Desirable criteria for both appointment levels:
- Teaching expertise in at least one of the following areas: property development, property investment and finance, commercial property markets, valuation, or sustainability in the built environment.
- Research expertise aligned to housing or property, ideally with high-level quantitative skills.
- Evidence of an emerging or established national research profile, commensurate with level of appointment.
- Experience engaging with industry stakeholders and delivering quality outcomes.
- Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) of the Australian Property Institute (API) or Chartered Member (MRICS) of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Role Requirements:
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered

This continuing ALB/ALC level role attracts a remuneration package of $121,857 - $144,352 (ALB) or $148,847 - $171,344 (ALC), plus 17% superannuation.
