The Opportunity

This role supports the execution of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF) project, “Designer crops: engineering thermotolerance for agricultural productivity,” jointly awarded to Monash University and the National Institute for Plant Genome Research, New Delhi. The successful candidate will coordinate this bilateral initiative, contribute to its intellectual and practical research outputs, and supervise staff and students as specified in the project agreement. The role involves contributing background IP related to specific technologies defined in the agreement between Monash University and the Commonwealth of Australia. Administratively, the position reports to the Head of School, while scientifically coordinating with the AISRF Joint Coordination Committee.

To be appointable into this position you will hold a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline area or equivalent accreditation and standing together with subsequent research experience, have a demonstrated ability to carry out forward genetic screens and fast-forward identification of genes and uncover mechanisms of gene function in Arabidopsis thaliana and experience in transnational collaborative research partnerships and obtaining funding in this context.

In this role you will collaborate with the Chief Investigators in India and Australia; the candidate is expected to contribute to the supervision of students and research staff recruited to the project and establish effective working relationships with the Chief Investigators, Joint Coordination Committee and other project members and work with the AI Modeller and ensure integration of the biological, computational and AI components
