It was renamed in 2008 after Aldo… The University of Bari Aldo Moro (Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro) was founded in 1925 and is the principal university of Apulia, based in Bari with further teaching sites at Taranto and Brindisi. It was renamed in 2008 after Aldo Moro, the jurist, Christian Democrat prime minister and long-serving professor of law in the university who was murdered by the Red Brigades in 1978. Bari has around 45,000 students and twenty-three departments, teaching medicine, pharmacy, biosciences, veterinary medicine, agriculture, law, economics, political science, education, the humanities and the physical sciences. Its research is prominent in agricultural and food science reflecting the region's agronomy, in medicine and pharmacology, in physics — through a long association with INFN and the Bari section's work on the LHC experiments — and in geology and environmental science along the Adriatic.
