It is named after Amedeo Avogadro, the Turin physicist and chemist, and operates across three cities: Vercelli, Novara and Alessandria. The university teaches around 15,000 students in seven departments — health sciences and translational medicine in Novara, pharmaceutical sciences, science and technological innovation in Alessandria, law and political, economic and social sciences, economics and business studies, humanities in Vercelli, and sustainable development and ecological transition. Its research includes work in clinical and translational medicine at the Maggiore della Carità hospital in Novara, pharmacology and drug discovery, materials and environmental science, and economics and law.
