Its buildings… The University of Urbino Carlo Bo (Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo) was founded in 1506 and is named after Carlo Bo, the literary critic and Hispanist who served as its rector for more than fifty years from 1947. Its buildings are dispersed through the Renaissance hill town of Urbino, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and include the celebrated student colleges designed by Giancarlo De Carlo in the 1960s. The university teaches around 16,000 students in seven departments, covering biomolecular sciences, pure and applied sciences, economics, society and politics, law, communication sciences, humanities and international studies, and humanistic studies. Its research includes work in biochemistry and sport and exercise science, geology and environmental science of the Apennines, economics and sociology, and an established tradition in the book arts, publishing and the history of graphic design.
