Around 44,000 students study here and some 610 professors teach and research across the university. Its work is organised in six faculties: Management, Economics and Social Sciences; Law; Medicine; Arts and Humanities; Mathematics and Natural Sciences; and Human Sciences. Research is concentrated in the university's Key Profile Areas, which range from ageing research and plant sciences through to the earth system sciences, and it hosts several DFG-funded Clusters of Excellence — among them CECAD, the Cluster of Excellence for Aging Research, which recruits through the same portal.
