It occupies a campus in the Città Studi district shared with the research… IFOM ETS, the AIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology, is a cancer research institute in Milan founded in 1998 and funded principally by AIRC, the Italian Association for Cancer Research. It occupies a campus in the Città Studi district shared with the research laboratories of the European Institute of Oncology, and it operates as a non-profit research foundation rather than a university. The institute concentrates on the molecular mechanisms of cancer: genome stability and DNA repair, cell division and chromosome biology, epigenetics and transcription, cell migration and metastasis, tumour microenvironment and computational and systems biology. Around forty research groups work there, supported by shared imaging, genomics and proteomics facilities. IFOM runs an international PhD programme and hosts a joint research laboratory with A*STAR in Singapore, and its scientists publish extensively in the primary literature of molecular and cell biology.
