UNSW Sydney’s Water Research Centre is hiring a full‑time Research Associate for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The role focuses on wastewater management, waste utilisation, hydrogen energy, electrochemistry and advanced materials, requiring independent research and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent experience, demonstrate a strong publication record, and be able to work with stakeholders, present at conferences, and support student supervision. The position offers an annual salary of AUD 118,467–126,711 plus 17% superannuation, and is based in Kensington, Sydney.

The Opportunity
The UNSW Water Research Centre (WRC) has an opportunity for a Research Associate to contribute to research across wastewater management, waste utilisation, hydrogen energy, electrochemistry and materials science. In this role, you will undertake research independently and as part of a collaborative team, contributing to projects focused on developing sustainable solutions across environmental and energy applications. You will apply appropriate research methods to investigate and evaluate new approaches in areas such as resource recovery, waste valorisation, electrochemical systems and advanced materials, while contributing to high-quality research outcomes and the broader development of research activities within the Centre.
This position will provide you with the opportunity to further develop your research expertise while contributing to high-quality research outcomes. You will work independently and collaboratively, contribute to scholarly publications and research activities, engage with relevant stakeholders and research partners, participate in conferences and workshops, and assist with the supervision of research students where required.
This role reports to Professor Bruce and has no direct reports.
