At the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, Institute of English and American Studies, the Chair of American Studies offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification, employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting April 1, 2027. The position comprises 65% of the fulltime weekly hours and is limited to 3 years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).

Tasks: Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the research, teaching, and academic self-governance activities of the Chair of American Studies. The teaching obligations, as defined by the Hochschuldienstaufgabenverordnung (HSDAVO), include administering exams and providing advising and guidance to students. In addition to participating in the Chair’s research activities, you are expected to pursue your own doctoral project within the scope of the Chair’s research areas.

Requirements:

  • a university degree in American Studies or English with a focus on American Studies
  • suitability for teaching
  • experience in organizing academic conferences is a plus
