Would you like to contribute to groundbreaking research on stress, health and the impact of environmental change? As a Research Technician, you will support innovative research using zebrafish as a model system, conduct laboratory experiments and play a key role in generating reliable scientific data.

As a research technician in the Animal Physiology group at Radboud University, you will provide technical support for research on stress biology, stress hormones, and the effects of environmental stressors using zebrafish as a model system. You will contribute to a wide range of laboratory activities, including molecular biology techniques and experimental work with zebrafish. You will help prepare, perform and optimise experiments, ensuring that laboratory procedures are carried out accurately and that experiments generate reliable, high-quality data.

In addition to your experimental work, you will contribute to the day-to-day management and organisation of the laboratory. This includes managing laboratory supplies and orders, supporting budget and financial administration, and coordinating practical activities to ensure that research proceeds efficiently. Depending on the needs of the group, you may also contribute to the organisation and coordination of the zebrafish facility and assist in teaching activities such as preparing lab classes.

You will help maintain a well-organised, safe and functional working environment by taking responsibility for laboratory equipment, materials and facilities. This includes monitoring equipment performance, coordinating servicing and repairs when needed and helping to ensure that laboratory facilities are kept in good working order. Through this combination of experimental work and organisational responsibilities, you will play an important role in supporting the research team and enabling high-quality scientific research.

I try to help budding academics feel just as at home at Radboud University as I do. Laura van Niftrik Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Science

Laura van Niftrik is a Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Science.

"Strong collegiality is one of the unique characteristics of Radboud University. There is a safe, friendly atmosphere. It’s easy to collaborate with colleagues from other research groups and faculties, and I have never seen any kind of competitiveness between my co-workers. The university still has some way to go when it comes to diversity, whether we’re talking about gender, culture or ethnicity. At the same time, I’m glad to see that a great deal of attention is being paid to this issue. This is evident in such practices as mentorship, which is something from which I’ve also benefited during my academic career. Spending time with an experienced academic so that you can brainstorm and bring each other up to speed on things can be quite helpful. Now that I’m a professor myself, I’ve also taken on the role of mentor. This has allowed me to help budding academics to feel just as at home at Radboud University as I do."

Does this sound like you?

  • You have a research or applied science university degree (BSc or MSc) in Biology, Biomedical Sciences or a related field.
