Description du projet

Description

The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is accepting applications for two senior lectureships in mathematics education at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The discipline of mathematics conducts education at both undergraduate and master’s levels, as well as research and doctoral courses in mathematics and mathematics education. The research environment is part of the research centre SMEER (Science, Mathematics and Engineering Education Research), which currently comprises both senior researchers and doctoral students. Subject-specific research at Karlstad University includes a large number of international and interdisciplinary research projects and practice-oriented research in collaboration with schools, involving researchers from mathematics education.

The mathematics education research conducted within the department focuses on the learning and teaching of children, adolescents and adults, with a strong connection to the professional development of teachers and teacher students. The projects focus on a range of areas, such as the digitalisation of mathematics education, mathematics assignments, cognitive activation and teachers’ planning practices. For more information, visit Mathematics.

Duties

Duties include teaching, course development and course coordination within teacher education programmes and engineering degree programmes, as well as supervising degree projects in mathematics education included in the teacher education programmes. Continuing professional development and research are regulated in a local agreement.

You are also expected to collaborate across the university and with the wider community in a mutual exchange, and work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society. To contribute to a positive work environment and further the department’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations.

Qualification requirements

To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in mathematics education, applicants are required to have demonstrated teaching expertise and hold a PhD in mathematics education, or equivalent academic qualifications or professional expertise deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.

Additional qualification requirements in accordance with Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure:

  • High quality and relevance in research production
  • Ability to collaborate with the wider community and disseminate information about activities and results
  • Ability to initiate and develop research or activities within the relevant subject area
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct, develop and evaluate teaching, examinations and other pedagogical activities at different levels and using varied teaching methods

Applicants are also required to have completed training in higher education pedagogy. Candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required courses within two years of employment, or that they apply for validation of prior learning.

In addition, all employees at Karlstad University are expected to demonstrate strong collaborative skills and to treat colleagues and students with respect. They are also expected to take responsibility for both the organisation and their own work, and to contribute to a positive work environment.

For more information on qualification requirements, please refer to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure.
