Résumé Explicify

Résumé de l'offre

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) invites applications for a tenure‑track professorship (W1) in Methods for Chip Design. The role focuses on AI‑driven Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and EDA for AI, targeting system‑level co‑design, low‑power, security, edge intelligence, and chiplet architectures. Responsibilities include high‑level research, interdisciplinary collaboration (e.g., with ConnAIx), and teaching 4–6 semester hours in Computer Science and the Chip Design master’s program. The position lasts six years with interim evaluation after three years, offers a W1 salary plus allowances, and requires a strong research profile in AI‑for‑EDA or EDA‑for‑AI.

Description du projet

The design and development of complex electronic systems is expected to undergo a paradigm shift driven by artificial intelligence in the near future. Rapidly increasing system complexities, domain-specific requirements, and new integration and security constraints demand AI-driven methods for Electronic Design Automation (EDA) as well as EDA techniques for AI systems. At KIT, Division II with its Institute of Technical Informatics (ITEC) and the KIT-Department of Informatics address these strategically important issues —soon also in collaboration with the Baden-Württemberg Graduate Center „Applied Artificial Intelligence (ConnAIx)“— and on this basis is establishing a new professorship

Your tasks

  • Research: You will conduct research at a high level of abstraction in the context of the aforementioned challenges, focusing on EDA methods with the goal of enabling future generations of electronics systems to be both more efficient and more complex. You will establish collaborations both within and outside KIT, for example, with the Baden-Württemberg Graduate Center ConnAIX.
  • Key focus areas: To achieve your research objectives, you will concentrate on the interaction between AI and design automation (e.g., AI for EDA or EDA for AI). Your emphasis lies in system-level co-design (hardware, software, neural networks, etc.) of electronic systems and in near-system EDA methods for circuit and/or system design, with application domains such as low-power, security, edge intelligence, distributed AI systems, chiplet-based architectures, etc. Additional potentially relevant research topics include open-source hardware design, generative AI in tool development, and EDA techniques for, for example, 2.5 D/3 D integration at future technology nodes, novel computing paradigms, and heterogeneous systems
  • Teaching: You will teach 4 semester hours per week —or, after a successful final evaluation, 6 semester hours per week— in the bachelor’s and master’s programs in Computer Science. Additionally, you will contribute to the interdisciplinary master’s program in Chip Design.

Governance: With the tenure-track professorship, you will assume leadership of an organizational unit at the Institute of Computer Engineering (ITEC).

Your profile

  • You have a well-defined research profile in either "AI for Electronic Design Automation" or "EDA for AI" and a strong commitment to advancing this research focus at KIT.
  • Openness to interdisciplinary collaboration, technology transfer/innovation links, and Open Science is second nature to you.

Ideally, you already have some teaching and supervision experience and a high level of motivation for pedagogical development.

Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) as well as the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Salary

Salary is determined by the statutory provisions of the state of Baden-Württemberg and corresponds to the basic salary of pay grade W1 (civil service pay scale).
In addition, allowances may be awarded. Where applicable, a family allowance is paid in accordance with civil service regulations.

Contract Duration

The position is for six years, either as a fixed-term civil service appointment (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit) or as an employment contract; an interim evaluation will take place before the end of the third year.

The evaluation process and the general evaluation criteria follow the Quality assurance concept for junior professorships and tenure-track professorships at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). For both the interim and final evaluations, KIT places particular importance on your ability to establish collaborations during your tenure-track professorship and to demonstrate initial implementation successes in software and/or hardware.
