It has more than 30,000 students studying around forty programmes in eighteen… Avans University of Applied Sciences (Avans Hogeschool) is a highly ranked Dutch university of applied sciences located in three cities in the province of North Brabant: Breda, 's-Hertogenbosch and Tilburg. It has more than 30,000 students studying around forty programmes in eighteen academies, and some 3,000 employees. Avans describes itself as a practice-oriented knowledge institution that offers bachelor's programmes, professional master's programmes and courses, and that carries out practice-oriented research. Its academies span business and finance, engineering and ICT, the built environment, life sciences and environmental technology, health care, social studies, the arts (through the St. Joost School of Art & Design) and teacher training. Research is organised in centres of expertise and research groups led by professors of applied sciences (lectoren) on themes such as sustainable business and the circular economy, safety and resilience, care and wellbeing, and the creative industries, with a strong link to companies and public organisations in Brabant. Avans' ambition is to help people move forward throughout their lives and to work with them on sustainable solutions for the future.
