It has approximately 12,000 students, mainly studying towards associate and bachelor's degrees, and it also offers master's degrees in nursing and physical therapy, alongside part-time programmes, retraining and professional courses. Its faculties cover applied sciences and life sciences (including biology and medical laboratory research, bio-informatics and chemistry), health care, social work and applied psychology, management and business, education and child studies, and law. Practice-oriented research is organised in research groups (lectoraten) on themes such as metabolomics and the life sciences, antroposophic health care, youth and family, participation and society, and law and professional practice, in cooperation with the institutions of the Bio Science Park, the LUMC and the region's schools and care providers. Hogeschool Leiden recruits lecturers and lecturer-researchers, researchers and professors of applied sciences, together with educational and support staff.
