It offers bachelor's programmes, associate degrees and a range of professional master's programmes, and welcomes exchange students from its international partner institutions. Its faculties cover business and economics, digital media and creative industries, education, health, sports and nutrition, applied social sciences and law, and technology. Alongside teaching, the HvA carries out practice-oriented research that aims to renew professional practice and contribute to society, organised in research groups led by professors (lectoren) and in centres of expertise on themes such as urban vitality, the creative industries, applied artificial intelligence, urban technology, and economic and social innovation in the Amsterdam region. It is also one of the institutions developing the professional doctorate, the practice-based doctoral route of the Dutch universities of applied sciences. The HvA recruits lecturers and lecturer-researchers, researchers and professors of applied sciences, professional-doctorate candidates and educational support staff.
