It describes itself as the hogeschool on the Zeeland coast, known for practice-oriented education with personal guidance and a broad programme offering in a small-scale setting, and it serves a region where water, the delta and the sea shape both the economy and the research questions. HZ offers bachelor's programmes, associate degrees and professional master's programmes in fields including engineering and water management, business and economics, ICT, health care and social work, education and teacher training, tourism and the built environment. Its practice-oriented research is organised in research groups (lectoraten) and knowledge centres on themes such as water technology and the delta, healthy region, coastal and sustainable tourism, and building with nature, in close cooperation with companies, governments and knowledge partners in the south-west delta. The university is governed by an executive board supported by a supervisory board and a participation council of students and staff. HZ recruits lecturers and lecturer-researchers, researchers and professors of applied sciences, together with educational and support staff.
