It is the principal university of Umbria, with its main buildings in Perugia and further teaching at Terni, Assisi, Foligno, Narni and Spoleto. Perugia has around 23,000 students and sixteen departments, teaching medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, agriculture, engineering, chemistry, physics and geology, economics, law, political science, philosophy and education. Its research is well established in agricultural and food science, veterinary medicine, chemistry and green chemistry, physics — through a long-standing INFN section — and in medicine, particularly haematology and bone marrow transplantation, for which the Perugia school has an international reputation.
