Apply

The Centre for Science Studies invites applications for up to three positions as Associate Professor or Professor of Science with an expected start date of 1 April 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. We seek applicants with academic expertise in one or more of the following areas: science communication, philosophy of science, history of science, or related areas.

The Centre is part of the Department of Mathematics within the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Aarhus University. Its staff members teach philosophy of science courses to students from the Faculties of Natural and Technical Sciences and are currently developing a new master’s programme in Science Communication. For information about the Centre and its staff, see css.au.dk.

The Centre aims to strengthen its research by attracting excellent researchers. Each successful candidate is expected to take an active role in developing the Centre’s research profile in collaboration with other staff members. This includes applying for external research funding. Each successful candidate is expected to contribute significantly to the success of the new master’s programme in Science Communication, in collaboration with other staff members.

In the application materials, applicants should reflect on the potential for research collaboration with members of the Centre for Science Studies, as well as on how they may contribute to the new master’s programme in Science Communication.

Each successful candidate should have:

  • an excellent international track record of independent and collaborative research;
  • recognition as a research leader within their field;
  • an established track record of attracting external research funding;
  • an excellent track record of teaching at all levels within the fields covered by the Centre for Science Studies; and
  • the potential to contribute to the Department’s strategic goals (see Strategy).

Each successful candidate is expected to:

  • build and sustain an active research group within their area of research, supported by external research funding;
  • strengthen the international profile of the Centre for Science Studies through high-quality research and academic activities;
  • contribute to teaching and supervision at all levels at the Centre;
  • take on responsibilities within the Department and Faculty, including through committee work; and
  • contribute to achieving the Department’s strategic goals (see link above).

The call forms part of the Department’s strategy, which includes two separate goals: improving the balance between professors and associate professors and improving the gender balance within the Department. In this context, we encourage female applicants to apply. All applicants will be assessed objectively and according to the same criteria, regardless of gender.
