Project Description

About the role

We are seeking a Clinical Research Fellow to join the University of Leicester’s Division of Respiratory Sciences and undertake a research project investigating potential biomarkers of airway hyperresponsiveness in people with asthma. Funded by the Midlands Asthma and Allergy Research Association, this collaborative project brings together expertise from Respiratory Sciences and Genome Biology. Based at Glenfield Hospital, you will work within the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre asthma service and will be supported to apply for a higher degree.

You will be responsible for screening, recruiting and sampling research participants before and after methacholine challenge, supporting the processing and recording of samples and study data, and contributing to laboratory studies using omics methods. Working collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, you will analyse and present findings, prepare reports and scientific manuscripts, help coordinate the study in accordance with research governance and ethical requirements, and support the clinical care of participants. You may also contribute to relevant outpatient clinics, supervise junior colleagues and present the research at national and international meetings.

About you

You will hold an MB BS or equivalent, have full GMC registration and a licence to practise, and hold MRCP (UK) or an equivalent qualification. You will have completed at least two full years of Foundation training or equivalent and have experience of working in Respiratory Medicine. You will understand the governance, ethical and data-protection requirements associated with clinical research and hold, or be able to obtain, Good Clinical Practice certification. A demonstrable commitment to research through publications, conference presentations, prizes or academic training is also essential.

With excellent written and verbal communication skills, you will be able to work accurately, organise competing priorities and manage your workload independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary research team. You will bring an ethical and reliable approach, flexibility, initiative and a desire to learn. Experience of managing patients with asthma, research or statistical methodology, data-analysis tools, or asthma-related research would be advantageous.
