Located in Germany, this role focuses on the interface of leukemia biology, translational metabolomics, and ribosome profiling to address chemoresistance in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The successful candidate will lead experiments using cutting-edge techniques such as single-cell analysis, patient-derived xenografts, and multi-omic sequencing. Responsibilities include designing in vivo studies, supervising doctoral students, and contributing to manuscript preparation. We seek an outstanding researcher with a PhD in biology or related fields, strong publication records, and expertise in cell culture and animal models. The position offers scientific independence, integration into the German Cancer Consortium network, state-of-the-art facilities, and a clear career development pathway. Project Description
We are recruiting for a newly established DFG Emmy Noether Research Group at the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. Postdoctoral Position in Hematology / Oncology Research (m/f/d) We are recruiting for a newly established DFG Emmy Noether Research Group at the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, University Medical Center Freiburg, working at the interface of leukemia biology, translational metabolomics and ribosome profiling. The group is embedded in a high-profile collaborative environment spanning the DKTK (German Cancer Consortium) partner site Freiburg and DKFZ Heidelberg. This environment offers an exceptional platform to build a strong scientific profile in translational AML research. Our research addresses one of the unmet clinical needs in oncology: understanding how acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells survive and persist under therapeutic stress, and how this chemoresistance can be therapeutically disrupted. Using cutting-edge approaches including ribosome profiling, single-cell analysis, metabolomics, in vivo models and patient-derived xenografts (PDX), we dissect the metabolic and translational programs that drive treatment resistance and clonal heterogeneity in AML, in close collaboration with leading national and international partners in the field. We are looking for an outstanding and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher who wants to take a leading role in shaping this research program, with the opportunity to develop their scientific profile, mentor doctoral students, and contribute to important publications. We offer: a unique opportunity to help shape and grow a newly funded Emmy Noether group at the interface of leukemia research, metabolic approaches and translational oncology Integration into the University Medical Center Freiburg and German Cancer Consortium network, providing access to leading expertise, infrastructure and collaborative opportunities across one of Europe’s recognized cancer research consortia a state-of-the-art laboratory and access to core facilities at the University Medical Center and DKFZ Heidelberg scientific independence combined with close mentorship, and the chance to actively define your own research questions a clear pathway for career development, including training, grant-writing support and mentoring Your Tasks: Design and lead experiments using ribosome and polysome profiling workflows, metabolic profiling, functional cell-based assays and drug sensitivity assays Design an conduct in vivo experiments in (patient-derived xenograft) mouse models analyze and interpret multi-omic sequencing data using established pipelines, in close collaboration with bioinformaticians take responsibility for laboratory safety and contribute to the supervision and training of doctoral students actively contribute to manuscript preparation, grant applications and the scientific direction of the group Your profile: Doctorate in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, or a related field, ideally with a strong publication record excellent background in cell and molecular biology, with a strong interest in translational cancer research documented experience with cell culture, functional cell-based assays and animal models a highly motivated, independent, collaborative and diligent working style, with ambition to grow into scientific leadership professional working proficiency in English Employment will be on a limited-term basis (36 months) with the possibility of extension. Salary is based on TV-L E13, according to personal qualification.
