Offer Summary
Uppsala University in Sweden is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in organic chemistry for its Department of Chemistry for Life Sciences. The role focuses on developing NOESY-based ensemble analysis methods for medium-sized molecules, including macrocycles and PROTACs. Key duties involve conducting small molecule NMR spectroscopy measurements and interpreting complex spectroscopic data. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in chemistry, physics, biology, or a related field, with extensive practical experience in solution-state NMR spectroscopy. Proficiency in full relaxation matrix analysis and quantitative NOESY spectrum interpretation is highly valued. The position requires strong scientific skills, excellent English communication abilities, and personal qualities such as accuracy, creativity, and social competence. Experience with organic synthesis and paramagnetic NMR is advantageous. This is a full-time, two-year temporary contract starting as agreed, located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala.

Project Description
Department of Chemistry for Life Sciences conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people work at the department. New employees and students are recruited from all over the world and English is the main working language. The department is located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala, which facilitates collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine and SciLifeLab and gives access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. You can find more information about us here.
This project aims to develop NOESY-based ensemble analysis methods for medium-sized molecules, such as macrocycles and PROTACs. The postdoctoral researcher’s specific task involves NMR spectroscopic measurements and the interpretation of spectroscopic data.
Duties
The work will include research within small molecule NMR spectroscopy.
Requirements
- A doctoral degree, or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctoral degree, in chemistry, physics, biology, or a related field, or other qualifications assessed by the employer as equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of and practical experience with solution-state NMR spectroscopy. In ranking eligible candidates special importance will be given to scientific skills.
- In the assessment of scientific merits, experience with full relaxation matrix analysis and the quantitative analysis of NOESY spectra will be highly valued.
- Candidates must be able to express themselves well in spoken as well as written English.
We attach great importance to personal qualities such as accuracy, creativity, openness, motivation, genuine scientific interest and social competence. It is important to us that our labs and our instruments are organized, clean and in good order, and you are expected to be a role model in this regard. You must have the ability to work well organized and structured. Since you will be involved in supporting the work of younger researchers, you need to be able to support individuals and ensure that the work environment is productive and pleasant.
Qualifications desired
Experience with organic synthesis and paramagnetic NMR will be considered an advantage.
