Project Description

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join an active multidisciplinary research team, focussed on optimisation, synthesis and evaluation of PROteolysis TArgeted Chimeras (PROTACs) to induce targeted protein degradation in human platelets and evaluate their functional effect on human platelet function and thrombosis. We are seeking to appoint a talented, ambitious, and self-motivating Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) with a background in Biomedical Sciences (Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Medical Biology, Cell Biology etc) to join the PROTAC research team of Prof Ingeborg Hers (Bristol Medical School).

What will you be doing?

You will work on a collaborative project within the Hers Group, funded by an external industrial partner, and will investigate the effects of BTK degradation on human platelet signalling, function, and thrombosis. You will compare the ability of a range of BTK degraders, alongside conventional BTK kinase inhibitors, and assess the resulting functional and signalling consequences. Work will involve studies on human platelets, as well as in vivo/ex vivo mouse studies to explore the effect of compounds on thrombosis and haemostasis. The project will provide comparative insight into BTK degradation versus kinase inhibition and its potential impact on platelet function and thrombosis.

You should apply if

You have:

  • A Biomedical background and a recently (or imminently) awarded PhD in a relevant area.
  • Experience with a wide range of experimental techniques, such as cell culture, western blotting, FACS analysis and confocal microscopy, and are confident to develop new techniques/approaches. Experience in platelet functional analysis and animal work is desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and an ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively as well as working in a team environment.
  • Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and ability to write and publish scientific papers (commensurate with career stage) are essential.

We look forward to receiving applications from motivated, enthusiastic, and curious people with a keen interest in cellular mechanisms, novel approaches and problem solving.
