Project Description

About the role

Do you want to challenge the Standard Model by making ultra-precise measurements?

Applications are invited for a Research Associate within the Centre for Cold Matter to measure the electron’s electric dipole moment using ultracold molecules.

What you would be doing

You will work as part of a small team aiming to measure the electron's electric dipole moment using ultracold YbF molecules. You will develop new experimental methods and models, acquire and analyze data, and present your work through publications and talks.

What we are looking for

  • A strong background in Experimental Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics.
  • Technical knowledge of precise laser systems and the control of laser light.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with cold atoms or molecules.
  • Experience in the simulation of experiments.
  • A strong background in data analysis methods.
  • A strong background in the construction of new apparatus
  • Experience with data acquisition hardware and software

What we can offer you

  • An opportunity to make a world-leading measurement that tests fundamental physics
  • An intellectually stimulating, collaborative and rewarding research environment
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
