Project Description
The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The role
We are looking for a motivated Research Fellow to join the Electrochemical Characterization and Sensing Group at the University of Surrey, supporting an EPSRC-funded project focused on developing intelligent battery technologies.
The project aims to improve how batteries are understood, monitored and managed by combining experimental research, advanced sensing, data analysis and computational approaches. The work also involves engagement with industrial partners, with opportunities to contribute to the development and practical application of emerging battery technologies.
Depending on your background and experience, your activities may include:
- Supporting the development, integration and testing of battery sensing and monitoring technologies.
- Conducting electrochemical experiments, battery testing and performance evaluation.
- Processing and analysing experimental data, including developing computational tools and algorithms.
- Supporting experimental design, data organisation and the evaluation of battery performance.
- Contributing to technical reports, research documentation and project deliverables.
- Working with researchers from different disciplines to support technology development and industrial validation.
This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on research experience, develop technical and analytical skills, and contribute to research with potential applications in battery safety, performance and future energy technologies.
This is a part-time (0.4 FTE) fixed-term position until March 2027.
About you
We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, computer science, data science or related disciplines.
You should have:
- A relevant academic background and an interest in battery or energy technologies.
- Experience or relevant knowledge in at least one of the following areas: experimental research, electrochemistry, electronic systems, data analysis, programming or computational methods.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
- Good organisational and communication skills, with attention to accurate research documentation.
