About QIMR Berghofer:

About Your Lab:
The Integrative Nutritional Epidemiology Group is part of the Population Health Program and undertakes research to better understand the relationships between diet, nutrition, metabolic profiles and cancer risk. The group combines traditional nutritional epidemiology methods with emerging molecular approaches, including metabolomics and other omics technologies, to identify pathways that may contribute to cancer development and prevention. Working within a highly collaborative environment, the group partners with researchers across Australia and internationally to deliver impactful population health research.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Integrative Nutritional Epidemiology Group within the Population Health Program.
This exciting opportunity is suited to an early to mid-career researcher with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, nutrition or a related discipline who is passionate about advancing our understanding of diet and cancer aetiology.
The successful candidate will work across a range of research projects incorporating traditional questionnaire-based nutritional epidemiology and molecular epidemiology approaches using metabolomics and other omics datasets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting critical appraisal and synthesis of evidence, including literature reviews.
- Designing and undertaking epidemiologic analyses using cohort, cancer registry and molecular datasets.
- Contributing to and leading scientific publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
- Presenting research findings at internal meetings, seminars and scientific conferences.
- Collaborating with national and international research partners.
- Contributing to student supervision and mentoring activities as required.
- Assisting with competitive grant applications and research funding initiatives.
- Actively participating in the activities of the Integrative Nutritional Epidemiology Group and Population Health Program.
- Maintaining high standards of research excellence, integrity and ethical conduct.
- Complying with relevant Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.
About you:
You will possess:
- A PhD (or equivalent) in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, data science or a related discipline (e.g. nutrition), with a Master's qualification in epidemiology, public health or biostatistics highly regarded.
- A demonstrated track record of achievement in population health research.
- At least three years' experience analysing epidemiologic datasets, including omics data.
- Strong understanding of nutritional and molecular epidemiology research methods.
- Demonstrated expertise using statistical software such as R and/or SAS.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative research team.
Desirable experience includes:
- Metabolomics and microbiome data analysis.
- Cancer epidemiology research.
Remuneration: Salary range is $98,983 to $106,201 p.a. plus superannuation and generous salary packaging benefits. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for two years.
