to commence as soon as possible in an employment relationship. Employment will take place in collaboration with the DLA (German Literature Archive) at Marbach on a non-tenured position for five years in accordance with the “Jülicher Modell”.

Applicants should demonstrate excellent research achievements either in a subject in the humanities with a focus on information science and computational literary studies or in information science and digital humanities with a strong emphasis on the humanities perspective. Pertinent publications in internationally visible media are expected. A focus in the area of digital editions as well as skills in research data management, current methods in optical character recognition and AI are desirable. An integral component of the position’s profile are competences in the field of developing methods and infrastructure solutions for machine-based exploration and analysis of analogue, esp. handwritten cultural artefacts.

The position also entails tasks relating to research-based teaching (2 hours per week) within the competences of the professorship and the MA specialization “Digital Humanities” at the Faculty of Humanities.

The position is located at an office at the management of the DLA and develops the field of exploring and analyzing analogue archive collections with the help of machine learning methods and AI. The conceptualization and acquisition of third-party funding are explicitly desired.

Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent degree as well as postdoctoral qualifications in the areas mentioned above and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a full professorship (proven e.g., through course evaluations).

The University of Tübingen is committed to equity and diversity and actively promotes equal opportunities. Female academics, in particular, are explicitly invited to apply, as are applicants from outside Germany. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.
