Its roots go back to 1798, when six citizens of Groningen collected five guilders and five pennies from 350 fellow townspeople to found a school for practically trained people; that conviction that everyone's talent is needed survives in its motto, "share your talent. move the world." Together with students, professionals, staff and partners, Hanze aims to build a powerful region. Hanze offers bachelor's and master's programmes, associate degrees and programmes for working professionals in fields including business and economics, engineering and technology, ICT, health and social studies, sports, education, the arts (through the Prince Claus Conservatoire and Minerva Art Academy) and international business. Its practice-oriented research is organised in innovation hubs and research centres led by professors of applied sciences (lectoren), on themes such as energy transition and hydrogen, healthy ageing, entrepreneurship, and the creative economy, contributing to the social missions of the north and to the Sustainable Development Goals.
