Based in Delft, it has provided graduate education to more than 23,000 water professionals from over 190 countries since 1957, and it is a flagship institute in the UN-Water family, operating under the auspices of UNESCO. The institute confers accredited MSc degrees and, together with its partner universities in the Netherlands, PhD degrees. IHE Delft's mission responds to a serious challenge in every part of the world: too many people remain without access to water and sanitation, and climate change, urbanisation and pollution put growing pressure on water resources. Its education, research and capacity-development programmes cover water supply and sanitation, water resources and ecosystems, hydraulic engineering and river basin development, coastal and urban water management, and water governance. The institute works with the city of Delft and the water-related institutes based there, and with partner institutions in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. IHE Delft recruits academic staff, researchers and PhD candidates in the water sciences and engineering, together with education and project staff, and offers internships.
