Its buildings are spread across Cagliari, including the historic seat in the Castello quarter and the science and medical campuses at Monserrato. The university teaches around 24,000 students in fifteen departments, covering medicine and public health, biomedical sciences, life and environmental sciences, chemical and geological sciences, physics, mathematics and computer science, civil, environmental, mechanical, chemical and electrical engineering, economics, law, political and social science, education, philosophy and letters. Its research includes work in neuroscience and pharmacology, chemistry, mining and geology reflecting Sardinia's mineral history, renewable energy, and archaeology of the island's Nuragic civilisation.
