Descrizione del progetto

The Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of

Junior Professor (W1 with tenure-track to W3) for
Theoretical Solid-State Physics

The position is due to commence as soon as possible.

The successful candidate is expected to carry out independent research and teaching in the domain of Theoretical Solid-State Physics.

The professorship is embedded in the research and teaching activities of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and the Center for Quantum Science. The goal of this appointment is to strengthen research of the Department of Physics that focusses on correlated quantum phenomena in the solid state.
We are looking for a researcher who will build a dynamic and diverse research group in the area of theoretical solid-state physics and is open to interdisciplinary collaborations with the existing research groups. We are seeking a candidate with an outstanding research profile and high international visibility. They are expected to attract substantial competitive third-party research funding. An active involvement in the Center for Quantum Science and the Center for Light-Matter-Interaction, Sensors and Analytics LISA+ is expected as well as readiness to participate in current or planned joint research projects and in the strategic development of the Department of Physics and the Faculty of Science.

The candidate is expected to participate in teaching in the Bachelor and Master of Physics study programs covering the full range of theoretical physics. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter. Teaching includes fundamental lectures and basic modules as well as more specialized lectures. The professorship participates in exams and PhD defenses of the Department of Physics at the usual level. Contributions to academic self-government at the University level and to committees of the Department of Physics are expected.

Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field, international publications, evidence of third-party grants (fellowship/scholarship) as well as teaching experience. The appointment prerequisites of § 51 LHG apply.

This Tenure-Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position.

Those who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.

Detailed information on the criteria underlying the interim evaluation and promotion to the tenured position may be found in our guidelines for tenure review under the following link: uni-tuebingen.de . There you can also find information on this employment category.

Applicants for a Tenure-Track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia and/or research for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen.

The University of Tübingen is committed to equity and diversity and actively promotes equal opportunities. Female academics, in particular, are explicitly invited to apply, as are applicants from outside Germany.
