Sintesi dell’opportunità
Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, seeks a Postdoctoral researcher to study endothelial barrier dynamics in white adipose tissue. This full-time, temporary position focuses on elucidating mechanisms linking obesity to cardiometabolic diseases like dyslipidaemia and insulin resistance. The role combines humanized in vitro models with in vivo mouse experiments and omics analyses. Candidates must hold a recent PhD with strong expertise in vascular biology, primary endothelial cell culture, 3D spheroid models, and animal experimentation. Meriting qualifications include transcriptomics data analysis and collaborative skills. The successful applicant will join Associate Professor Carolina Hagberg’s international group within the Department of Medicine, Solna, benefiting from state university collective agreement benefits and access to extensive research facilities at the BioClinicum.

Descrizione del progetto
Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
Are you curious why obesity leads to cardiometabolic disease, and want to contribute to elucidating the underlying disease mechanisms? We are a dynamic research group working translationally to understand how expansion of the human white adipose tissue leads to the emergence of cardiometabolic diseases, most notably dyslipidaemia and insulin resistance. As a part of a larger network of researchers in metabolism and cardiovascular inflammation, our lab aims to identify early molecular mechanisms driving disease initiation during obesity, with a particular focus on better understanding the source of adipose tissue dysfunction.
Your mission
The postdoctoral project will study the dynamics of the endothelial barrier in white adipose tissue and how it shapes adipose tissue lipid handling in health and disease. You will combine humanized in vitro models, made up of primary human microvascular endothelial cells or unilocular adipocyte spheroids, with functional in vivo mouse experiments. Omics analyses will complement these approaches, and the project will involve close collaboration with national and international partners, as well as colleagues in the lab working on adjoining projects.
Your profile
We are seeking a curious, motivated, creative, and independent researcher with a recent PhD and a strong background in experimental vascular biology and adipose tissue research, ideally demonstrated by several publications in well-established journals.
Required qualifications:
- Hands-on experience of culture and transwell-models using primary endothelial cells
- 3D in vitro spheroids models of adipose tissue
- Experience from in vivo mouse work, including i.v. tracing experiments in mice, and image-based analysis of tracer accumulation in organs, GTT and ITT.
- The ability to plan, perform, analyse and document animal experiments as well as maintain animal colonies.
- Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English
Meriting qualifications:
- The ability to work in a team and help out colleagues both experimentally and by discussing.
- Omics analyses of transcriptomics data
Scientific expertise and an ambitious, driving and problem-solving attitude with an attention to detail are highly valued.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
