It opened in 2018 at the Utrecht Science… The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology (Prinses Máxima Centrum voor kinderoncologie) is the national centre for children with cancer in the Netherlands, where care and research come together for all children with cancer. It opened in 2018 at the Utrecht Science Park, next to the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital of UMC Utrecht, after the Dutch paediatric oncology community decided to concentrate all specialised care and research in one centre. Its mission is to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life. The centre combines a children's hospital with a large research institute. Its research groups work on the biology of childhood cancers, on new diagnostics and treatments, on precision medicine, immunotherapy and cell therapy, and on the late effects of treatment and the quality of life of survivors, and it runs national and international clinical trials. The Princess Máxima Center works closely with UMC Utrecht, Utrecht University, the Hubrecht Institute and the other institutions on the Utrecht Science Park, and it relies in part on donations for its research programmes. The centre recruits PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, principal investigators, research technicians and clinical researchers, alongside medical and nursing staff, and it accepts open applications from researchers.
