Its buildings run along the… The University of Calabria (Università della Calabria) was founded in 1972 at Arcavacata di Rende, near Cosenza, and was designed from the outset as a residential campus on the Anglo-American model — still a rarity in Italy. Its buildings run along the kilometre-long elevated walkway known as the Ponte Bucci, and it houses several thousand students on site. The university teaches around 27,000 students in fourteen departments, covering physics, chemistry and chemical technologies, mathematics and computer science, biology, ecology and earth sciences, pharmacy and health and nutritional sciences, civil, environmental, mechanical, energy and management engineering, computer, modelling, electronics and systems engineering, economics, statistics and finance, political and social sciences, law, and the humanities. Its research is well known in computational logic and databases, physics, chemical engineering and membrane technology, and archaeology of Magna Graecia.
