Project Description

The Bacterial Metabolomics Group of the Cluster of Excellence "Controlling microbes to fight infec-tions" at the University of Tübingen advertises a

Postdoctoral Position in Mass Spectrometry-Based Metabolomics
(m/w/d, E13 TV-L, 100%)

to be filled as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to two years.

The research group headed by Prof. Dr. Hannes Link at the University of Tübingen invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. Our group combines high-throughput LC-MS/MS metabolomics with CRISPR-based genetic screens to understand how bacteria regulate their metabolism, with applications in antimicrobial resistance, microbiome research and synthetic microbiology. The postdoc will develop new high-throughput metabolomics methods and coordinate the metabolomics collaborations of our group within the Cluster of Excellence Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections, at the University of Tübingen and with other collaboration partners. You can find more information about our group at .

Your tasks:

  • Development of cutting-edge high-throughput metabolomics methods (LC-MS/MS, targeted and untargeted), for example to measure metabolomes of large mutant libraries and genetic screens.
  • Coordination of metabolomics collaborations within the Cluster of Excellence CMFI, with re-search groups across the University of Tübingen, and with external academic and industrial partners.
  • Planning, measurement and analysis of metabolomics experiments together with collaboration partners, from experimental design and sample preparation to data interpretation.
  • Maintenance and further development of 3 LC-MS/MS systems and data analysis pipelines.
  • Training and supervision of PhD students, Master students and collaborators in metabolomics workflows.

Our requirements:

  • PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate projects with multiple partners.
  • Experience with liquid chromatography or mass spectrometry.
  • Experience with high-throughput sample handling or automation is a plus.
  • Data analysis skills (e.g. in Python, R, MATLAB or similar).
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Send your application as one pdf file by email to hannes.link@uni-tuebingen.deuntil November 23, 2026. The University aims to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore particularly encourages qualified women scientists to apply.
