It occupies the Badia Fiesolana and a… The European University Institute (EUI) is an international postgraduate and postdoctoral research institution established in 1972 by the six founding member states of the European Communities, under a convention that now includes most EU countries. It occupies the Badia Fiesolana and a group of historic villas in the hills above Florence at San Domenico di Fiesole. The institute has four departments — economics, history, law, and political and social sciences — together with the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, the School of Transnational Governance and the Historical Archives of the European Union, which hold the records of the EU institutions. It admits doctoral researchers from across Europe and beyond, teaches and supervises entirely in English, and its research concentrates on European integration, comparative politics, international and European law, economic policy and contemporary European history.
