Since 2014 it has also taught degree programmes through Humanitas University, its own medical school. The hospital treats a high volume of specialist cases in oncology, cardiovascular medicine, neurology, orthopaedics, gastroenterology and immunology, and its laboratories work on the immune system and inflammation, cancer immunology and immunotherapy, innate immunity, and the relationship between inflammation and chronic disease. Its research in immunology, associated with the work of Alberto Mantovani, is among the most highly cited in Europe, and its degree programmes in medicine, nursing and biomedical sciences are taught largely in English.
