It occupies historic buildings in the centre of Naples, including the Palazzo Sansevero complex. The school admits doctoral candidates and a small number of undergraduates by international competition, on residential terms with stipends and free board. Its doctoral programmes cover mathematical and physical sciences for advanced materials and technologies, genomics and experimental medicine, archaeology and cultures of the ancient Mediterranean, global history and governance, law and cognitive science, and cosmology and particle physics, each run jointly with the corresponding departments and research institutes in the city.
