The research group of Dr Kevin Ciminski at the Institute of Virology, University Medical Center Freiburg, is recruiting for the ERC Starting Grant project FLU-ARMOR Postdoctoral Researcher in Influenza Virology and Innate Immunity (m/f/d) Background: The research group of Dr Kevin Ciminski investigates molecular virus–host interactions that determine the zoonotic and pandemic potential of influenza A viruses. Within the ERC Starting Grant project FLU-ARMOR, we will examine how zoonotic influenza viruses overcome MxA-mediated human innate immune restriction and acquire traits associated with human adaptation. By combining experimental analyses of viral immune-evasion mechanisms with AI-assisted surveillance approaches, the project aims to identify molecular risk signatures and establish a mechanistically informed framework for the early assessment of emerging influenza viruses and contribute to pandemic preparedness.
