It reports to the Ministry of University and Research and has its presidency in Frascati. INFN works through about twenty divisions hosted in university physics departments, four national laboratories — Frascati, Legnaro, Gran Sasso and the Southern National Laboratories at Catania — and several national centres. It is a principal partner in the CERN experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, runs the underground laboratories at Gran Sasso where neutrino and dark matter experiments are carried out, participates in the Virgo gravitational-wave detector at Cascina, and supports theoretical physics, detector development, accelerator science and scientific computing.
